Individual therapy is typically offered for children ages five and up (with some exceptions). Individual therapy allows for children to speak or play freely in session and to process their world in a safe, non-judgmental space while working on goals to help increase their overall wellness.
Individual therapy sessions are most often between 30-60 minutes in length and are generally once a week. However, there are some situations where sessions might be more or less frequent. Sessions involve processing past and current life stressors and views on the future. With children, processing doesn't always occur through talking. Rather, processing, communicating and expressing themselves can take place through play, art, games, music, and movement.
Although individual therapy is focused on the individual, Nesting Connections believes that caregiver involvement is often necessary in some capacity to ensure goals are reached and wellness can be maintained.
